    About Us

    Home -> About Us

    We provide full and part time places for 152 two to four year olds, offering 15 hours of nursery school provision. We offer 30 hour free childcare places to children who meet the criteria for working parents - please call in to discuss this or check our website if you think you may be eligible. You can also pay for a 'Top up' place if you are not eligible.

    We offer before and after school care from 8am to 5pm, where your child will be looked after by our own experienced Teaching Assistants. Please ask at the school office if you would like a place for your child.

    We believe that children learn best by actively pursuing their interests and ideas through play. Play allows them to explore ideas, feelings and relationships. We encourage children to become independent learners by providing them with opportunities to play, explore, investigate and follow their own interests, as well as being taught for a short time each day in their key groups.

    We value learning outdoors, and believe that being outdoors has a positive impact on children's sense of well-being and on their development. Children have access to the outdoor learning environment throughout the day supporting the development of healthy and active lifestyles by offering children opportunities for physical activity, freedom and movement, and promoting a sense of well-being.

    Our experienced staff team facilitate the child's process of creating and developing theories about the world, helping them to problem solve through open ended questioning and differentiated responses.

    Children’s personal, social and emotional development is central to their learning and we support this through the development of positive and caring relationships. We support children in managing feelings and behaviour through giving them the vocabulary to name a range of emotions and use a conflict resolution approach to managing conflict, where we help children learn how to find solutions to conflicts.

    Respect for children’s rights runs through our curriculum. We teach children about their rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and are a Rights Respecting School.

    We hold regular workshops for parents where you can work with your child and find out about ways to support their learning at home. Parents and carers are welcome to drop in to nursery at any time, and we hold termly Parent Meetings where you can talk about your child’s learning and development with their Key Person. We will invite you to join us for celebration events and trips and outings over the year and hope that you will be able to attend these with your child.

    We regularly observe and assess children’s learning to plan appropriate learning activities.  Each child has an on-line Learning Journey (Tapestry) which is a record of their progress, and includes observations and photographs of the child playing and learning. Parents are invited to contribute to their child’s Learning Journey with things they have been doing at home. This helps us to get a better understanding of your child’s learning and development and to plan activities to support and extend it.
