TIAAS - 'Trauma Informed Attachment Aware' Practice

Goodway Nursery School is committed to Trauma Informed Practice. As an attachment-aware setting, we aim to build resilience, prioritise strong relationships, and support vulnerable children in overcoming the effects of trauma. We actively promote the development of emotional literacy and self-regulation, recognising that these skills are essential for positive emotional well-being and mental health. Our children are encouraged and supported to keep themselves safe and to behave safely and respectfully towards others.

    Emotion Coaching

A key element of the TIAAS programme at Goodway Nursery School is emotion coaching. This evidence-based, whole-school approach supports how we respond to children’s emotions and helps to build strong, positive relationships.

Emotion coaching enables children to develop a better understanding of their feelings and supports them in managing their emotions, particularly during times of heightened distress.

Through our TIAAS training, we recognised that emotion coaching and developing emotional literacy are valuable for all children, not just those who may be more vulnerable or who have experienced trauma. With this in mind, we have created our own engaging and accessible approach to emotion coaching, inspired by the book The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas.
